Echo Park Group Appeals Ruling for Developer to State Supreme Court
An Echo Park-area residents’ group has taken its fight against the construction of a Morton Avenue apartment building to the state Supreme Court.
The Elysian Heights Residents Assn. last week asked the high court to hear its appeal of a June 9 decision by the Court of Appeal, which upheld the developer’s right to proceed with the 45-unit project.
The residents claim that the project violates the General Plan of the City of Los Angeles and would crowd the narrow hillside street.
The project began before the city started to make its zoning maps for the Silver Lake-Echo Park area conform to the newer and more restrictive General Plan, which would allow only a 12-unit building on the site.
Meanwhile, the project’s builder, Morton Park Associates of Studio City, resumed work after the Court of Appeal ruling last month.
The building is about half complete, the builder says.
