Huntington Park : Council Salaries Raised

Share

City Council members voted last week to raise their salaries to $500 a month, an increase of $100, because the population in the city has grown.

This is the second raise the council has given itself in four months. The council received an increase in April--from $311.85 to $400 a month--after three members were reelected. The government code states that council members in a city with a population between 35,000 and 50,000 can make up to $400 a month, said Laverne Jones, deputy city clerk. As of Jan. 1, 1985, the population in the city was 49,727.

The city received a validated estimate last month from the California Department of Finance, effective Jan. 1, that shows the city now has a population of 50,763. The code allows cities with a population of between 50,000 and 75,000 to pay council members up to $500 a month, Jones said.
