Housing Secretary Samuel R. Pierce Jr. announced a two-month postponement until Sept. 30 of regulations prohibiting illegal aliens from living in public housing projects and other federally subsidized units. The regulations, published April 1 and originally set to take effect July 30, require residents of public housing projects to provide proof of citizenship or legal residency and allow for eviction of illegal aliens. Pierce said he wanted to give Congress more time to consider legislation on the issue.
