Washington Redskin quarterback Joe Theismann, thwarted in his attempt to return to football after breaking his leg, is expected to officially announce his retirement in the next few days, possibly today.

He vowed then that he would return to play, but last May said his rehabilitation was lagging and it would take a “miracle” for him to compete.
