Guard Norm Nixon of the Clippers suffered a knee injury Thursday while playing softball in New York. He is scheduled to fly back to Los Angeles today, where he’ll be examined by team doctors.
Nixon was playing in a softball league composed of the casts of Broadway shows. His wife, Debbie Allen, is currently starring in the production “Sweet Charity.”
Nixon could not be reached for comment. However, a source close to him, who asked not to be identified, said he didn’t think the injury was serious enough to require an operation.
The Clippers released the following statement Thursday:
“Norm Nixon has informed the Clippers that he injured his left knee while playing softball today in New York. Clipper trainer Mike Shimensky has spoken with Norm Nixon. At this time we do not know the nature and extent of the injury. Norm is flying back to Los Angeles immediately for examination by team physicians.”
