An 8-month-old boy who was abducted from UCI Medical Center and taken to Denver was released Friday by the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center to other protective agencies, a hospital spokeswoman said.

David Kennedy Jr. of Huntington Beach had been in protective custody at the UCI Medical Center but vanished Monday night. An unidentified woman, believed to be the baby’s great-grandmother, brought the baby to the center in Denver Tuesday night.

The baby’s parents, David Kennedy, 30, and Kimberlynn Kennedy, 24, are believed to be in the Denver area. On Thursday, Denver Juvenile Court Commissioner E. Lee Hamby ruled that they could see their son if strict supervisory measures were taken.

Huntington Beach police believe that the child has been abused. David Kennedy faces one count of felony child endangerment, Orange County Deputy Dist. Atty. Mike Relic said.

The University of Colorado hospital spokeswoman said Friday that the child was released to the Orange County Social Services Agency and Denver County Social Services, but neither agency, citing confidentiality requirements, would confirm the information.

“His condition is good,” Paul Gosselin, the child’s grandfather, said in a telephone interview Friday.

Orange County authorities have said that the baby showed signs of old breaks of his left arm and leg, suffered a head injury that caused bleeding between his brain and skull and received bruises in various stages of healing.
