A transient who has been in and out of mental hospitals 35 times and arrested nearly 50 times has been convicted of blinding an elderly woman by gouging out one of her eyes. Anthony Amaviska, 38, was convicted in Los Angeles Superior Court of mayhem, attempted murder and attempted robbery in the attack on Ida Williams, 78, in Santa Fe Springs last October. The victim lost the sight in both of her eyes.
