Alleged Source of Coke to Bias Turns Self In

The man who allegedly supplied the cocaine that killed Maryland basketball star Len Bias surrendered to police today, three days after being indicted on multiple drug charges by a grand jury investigating the player’s death.

Brian Lee Tribble, 24, was charged Friday in a sealed indictment with distributing cocaine, possessing cocaine with intent to distribute, possessing cocaine and possessing PCP, his lawyer said.

Law enforcement officials have said repeatedly over the last month that they believed Tribble, who was with Bias when he collapsed in his dormitory room June 19, supplied the cocaine that killed the Maryland player.

Tribble appeared before a Prince George’s County court commissioner at 10:45 a.m. and was ordered held on $250,000 bond.

Tribble was identified as the man who placed a 911 emergency call to the Prince George’s County rescue squad after Bias was stricken, according to a tape recording of the conversation released a week ago.

A self-employed furniture upholsterer and former Maryland student, Tribble lives in suburban Washington and was Bias’ close friend for the last several years.

Two of Bias’ teammates also are named in the indictment returned Friday.

David Gregg, 19, and Terry Long, 22, who were charged with possession of cocaine, were also expected to surrender voluntarily. While Tribble had been served with an arrest warrant, no warrant had been issued for them.
