Another Temblor Logged Off Coast
An aftershock from the July 13 earthquake that shook Southern California was recorded Wednesday afternoon off San Diego County, and seismology experts predicted that more temblors are on the way.
Wednesday’s temblor, the eighth California quake in two days, occurred at 3:51 p.m. and measured 4.1 on the Richter scale, according to seismology experts at the California Institute of Technology. There were no reports of injuries or damage, police said.
The quake took place along the same offshore fault line 28 miles southwest of Oceanside, the location of the 5.3-magnitude quake July 13 that caused an estimated $500,000 in minor damage in the county. That temblor was the largest yet recorded in the county or offshore.
A Caltech spokesman said seismic activity stemming from the July 13 quake could be expected to continue for several weeks and perhaps months.
“There will likely be further aftershocks, but we don’t know how many or when,” Dennis Meredith said.
On Tuesday, two aftershocks were recorded in San Diego County, measuring 4.4 and 3.9 on the Richter scale. Both of those also were centered 28 miles southwest of Oceanside.
