Santa Ana : Man Investigating Car Vandals Is Fatally Shot

A Santa Ana man whose automobile had been the target of vandals a week ago was shot to death early Thursday when he went to investigate why the car’s theft alarm had gone off, police said.
Long Thanh Nguyen, 29, was pronounced dead on arrival at Western Medical Center from a gunshot wound to the chest.
Nguyen apparently heard his car alarm sound about 1:50 a.m. and went to the carport area of the East Wilshire Avenue apartment complex in Santa Ana where he lived, investigators said.
A week earlier, the victim had heard his alarm go off and scared the vandals away. There was no evidence of any attempt to steal anything in that incident, police said.
Thursday, as his wife watched from a window, police said, Nguyen was shot by someone who may have been trying to break into his car.
