A Long Beach electroplating firm was charged with illegally storing and disposing of hazardous wastes at a site in Wilmington that has been closed. Named in the complaint are J. D. Freeland, president and chief executive officer of California Chrome Inc., and David Demytryshyn, plant manager. The charges stem from an inspection by the county Health Department in which hazardous levels of chrome, copper, nickel and cyanide were observed in trash bins and 20,000 gallons of waste acid were found in vats in the yard, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.
