Skeletal remains of an unidentified young woman have been found in a remote area of the Ronald W. Caspers Wilderness Park, authorities said Friday.

Sheriff’s Lt. Robert Rivas said the remains were found at 8:10 p.m. Thursday by a ranger marking a trail in the Orange County regional park north of San Juan Capistrano.

An autopsy was scheduled for today to determine her identity and the cause of death. In the meantime, Rivas said detectives were investigating the case as a possible homicide.

The 7,500-acre park was the site of a mountain lion attack on a 5-year-old El Toro girl last March 23. But Rivas said there was “no indication of any predatory activity” in Thursday’s discovery.

The woman was described as Caucasian, between 21 and 29 years of age, 5 feet, 2 inches tall with a slender build and curly brown hair.
