Bonnie Dasse of Costa Mesa set a meet record Friday by winning the women’s shotput with a throw of 59-6 3/4 at the U.S. Olympic Festival at Houston.
Dasse, 27, had placed second at the Athletic Congress meet recently with an identical throw. She was eighth at the Goodwill Games with a throw of 60-1 3/4.
For the first time in three years, Dasse is injury-free. In 1984, she suffered two stress fractures in her vertebrae and was unable to try to qualify for a spot on the Olympic team. Last year, she suffered an injury to her left (throwing) wrist.
