You’d think “Extremities” would be the perfect picture for a benefit screening.

After all, the pic, which opens August 22, has Farrah Fawcett as an assault victim who takes graphically depicted revenge on her sadistic would-be rapist.

But Atlantic Releasing--after giving fund-raisers “serious thought”--nixed the idea because the company wants the film perceived as an “entertainment vehicle.”

“If we make the film too issue-oriented, it might turn people off. . . . It’s the subtle nuances that keep people away,” said Atlantic marketing VP Ron Wanless.

But the movie will be previewed to members of rape-crisis centers, nursing organizations and various women’s groups.
