RAMBOSKY

The New York Times recently ran a piece on how the Russians now have their own film version of Rambo--and we just happened to be chatting with Sly Stallone on the set of the now-filming “Over the Top” when an assistant showed the article to the boss.

“I love it! I love it!” said Our Rambo, as he scanned the story about “Solo Voyage,” starring Mikhail Nozhkin as a Russian commando who thwarts evil American agents attempting to trigger a superpowers’ war.

“This makes me feel better,” said Stallone, who has taken some “Rambo” flak from the Kremlin. “It makes me think that they’re looking at ‘Rambo’ with a little bit more of a sense of humor. And that they see it as entertainment. I mean, they seem to be looking for a piece of the pie--a commercial hit.

“You know what,” he laughed, “I should call those Russian film makers and say, ‘Let’s have your character and my character meet on the plains of Afghanistan.’ We could do two versions--the Russian version where they win and an American version where we win. That would do more for Soviet-American relations than the next 1,000 press conferences. . . . So what do you think? Should I call Armand Hammer and see if he can set this up?”
