TRASHING THE MOVIES

Share

The strangest cut of all was the omission of so many outstanding scores of the ‘80s, such as Jerry Goldsmith’s inspired score for “Under Fire,” featuring pan pipes and the guitar artistry of Pat Metheny.

And what other music could fit so well with the bizarre “Gremlins” as Goldsmith’s own, with his wonderful trademark of that perfect balance of synthesizers and acoustic instruments?

His two “Poltergeist” scores belong here, as does Bruce Broughton’s beautiful score for “Silverado,” Elmer Bernstein’s music for “Airplane,” James Horner’s “Star Trek” scores, among others.
