Mike Brown, the Pittsburgh Pirates’ leading hitter last season, was optioned to Hawaii of the Pacific Coast League. Brown, 26, was acquired last Aug. 2 from the Angels with left-handed pitcher Bob Kipper, currently on the disabled list, and left-hander Pat Clements for pitchers John Candelaria and Al Holland and outfielder George Hendrick.
