A motorcyclist and his passenger who were being chased by officers were killed early Tuesday when the driver pulled onto railroad tracks and then drove into a flood control channel, police said.

The passenger, identified as Robert James Kroh, 26, of Buena Park and the driver, whose name was not released pending family notification, were declared dead at the scene, police Lt. David Barr said.

Cypress police officers reportedly saw the motorcycle traveling the wrong direction along several residential streets about 2 a.m., Barr said in a prepared statement read by a dispatcher.

The officers, in marked vehicles, tried to pull over the motorcycle by using flashing emergency lights and sirens, but the motorcycle did not stop, Barr said.

When the motorcycle left the roadway and began traveling north on the railroad tracks near Crescent and Moody streets, the Cypress officers stopped their chase, officials said.

Moments later, Barr said, the La Palma Police Department received phone calls reporting an accident on the railroad tracks at the Moody Creek Flood control channel.

The bodies of both men were found inside the cement channel, Barr added.
