San Clemente to Install Stop Signs at Corner Where Boy Was Killed
- Share via
The San Clemente City Council voted unanimously Wednesday night to install stop signs facing all four directions at the intersection of El Camino Real and Avenida San Luis Rey, where a 6-year-old boy was killed crossing the street last week.
The council will decide what permanent measures, if any, should be taken at the intersection at its next meeting, when a detailed traffic study should be completed, Assistant City Manager Greg Hulsizer said.
A citizens’ group gathered about 1,000 signatures on petitions asking that a traffic signal be installed at the intersection, Hulsizer said.
The council also voted to provide brightly colored flags at the intersection for pedestrians to use to alert traffic while crossing the street. The flags will be placed in baskets attached to the stop signs, Hulsizer said.
