Documents were seized from the homes of San Diego County Registrar of Voters Ray Ortiz and others as part of an ongoing district attorney’s investigation into travel by Ortiz and contracts awarded by his office. District Attorney’s spokesman Steve Casey said search warrants were served at Ortiz’s El Cajon home and the Escondido home of Richard and Lora Lee Stephens, owners of Election Data Corp. A search warrant also was served at the Chula Vista home of Maria Caldera, who grew up with Ortiz and briefly worked in his office. Caldera also is a consultant to Jefferies Banknote, which completed a large contract with the registrar’s office.
