AND WAIT, THERE’S MORE: David Lee Roth performed an unofficial “dress rehearsal” for his upcoming tour last weekend before about 1,000 invited guests at the Long Beach Arena. The press wasn’t invited, so we won’t review the show. But here’s a few tips. Besides much of the new material from Roth’s solo album, the show includes a healthy chunk of songs from recent Van Halen albums (including “Jump,” “Panama” and “Oh Pretty Woman”). It also gave Roth an opportunity to show off his latest outfit (Spandex exercise tights with “designer holes” showing off strategic parts of the Roth body) as well as engage in some of his familiar stage banter, which found rock’s merriest loudmouth offering backstage passes to a young lovely near the stage. . . . We won’t give away the “plot” of Roth’s next video either, but don’t be surprised if its special effects don’t portray Roth as a 300-pound fat man. . . . A host of celebrities were on hand at local group Kevin McCormick & the Uninvited’s recent Club Lingerie show, including Jackson Browne, Daryl Hannah and Rae Dawn Chong. (The band headlines the Lingerie again this Thursday). . . . And rock poet and musician Jim Carroll will offer a spoken-word performance Thursday at the Cooperage in UCLA’s Ackerman Union, which include selections from his latest poetry offering, “The Book of Nods.” Also on hand for the show, which begins at 8 p.m., will be Ivan Roth and Jill Fraser.
