Man Charged in Monrovia Garage Fire

A suspect has been arrested and charged in one of six residential garage fires set within a 38-minute period in the downtown area Tuesday.

Michael Frisbee, a 24-year-old transient, was arrested Wednesday afternoon in Arcadia County Park after a witness told fire investigators that Frisbee had been seen near the site of one of the fires, said Ron Crowder, assistant fire chief. Crowder said Frisbee is also a suspect in the other fires.

Two more fires were set in Aracdia later Tuesday, and Monrovia police theorize that the same person set all eight fires. The arsonist is believed to be the same person who committed a similar series of crimes in January.

At its meeting Tuesday, the Monrovia City Council offered a $2,500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the arsonist.

Crowder said that if Frisbee is convicted, the witness probably will collect the money. But Crowder said that the witness, whom he declined to identify, did not know of the reward when he identified Frisbee.
