Orange County Architects Hold Award Presentation

Three Honor Awards--the highest citation--and 14 other awards were presented by the Orange County chapter of the American Institute of Architects at its 11th annual awards celebration in Costa Mesa.

Honor Awards went to Architects Orange, Orange, for the Hamilton Office Building in Costa Mesa; Albert C. Martin & Associates, Irvine, for The Towers at Brinderson Plaza, Irvine, and Leason Pomeroy Associates, Orange, for the CalMat corporate headquarters, 3200 San Fernando Road, Los Angeles.

Honorable Mentions went to IBI Group/L. Paul Zajfen AIA, Newport Beach, for Univesity Park, Dallas; Marca Weston Whitfield, Laguna Beach, for a remodel and addition to the Laguna Beach County Water District, Laguna Beach, and IBI Group/L. Paul Zajfen AIA, Newport Beach, for Heritage Village Recreation Center, Fontana.

Merit Awards went to Minoru Chen AIA, Huntington Beach, for a custom home in Palo Alto; Langdon Wilson Mumper Architects, Newport Beach, for Taco Bell, Irvine; Coleman/Caskey Architects Inc., Irvine, for the UCI/CCM Clinical Facility, UC Irvine, Irvine, and WZMH Group Inc., Los Angeles, for Volt Corp. headquarters, Orange.

Judge’s Commendations were awarded to: Steward Woodard & Associates AIA, Costa Mesa, for Glenkirk Presbyterian Church, Glendora, and Saddlebrook Village, Pasco County, Florida; McLarand, Vasquez & Partners Inc., Costa Mesa, for Big Canyon Villas, Newport Beach; IBI Group/L. Paul Zajfen AIA, Newport Beach, UC Santa Barbara faculty housing, Santa Barbara.

Others were Klages Carter Vail & Partners/CRS Sirrine Inc. Inc., Costa Mesa, for the Irvine Civic Center, Irvine; Dougherty & Dougherty, Newport Beach for P.O.D. Inc. headquarters, Santa Ana, and Ron Yeo, FAIA Architect Inc., Corona del Mar, for Temple Sharon, Costa Mesa.
