Al Unser Jr. edged Bill Elliott to win the Budweiser International Race of Champions and the championship of the 10th IROC series at Watkins Glen, N.Y.

Unser, at 24 the youngest driver ever to appear in the series, which features 12 of the world’s best drivers in identically prepared IROC Z-28 Chevrolet Camaros, held off a strong challenge from Elliott on the final lap around the 2.4-mile road circuit.

That gave Unser, an Indy-car specialist, victories in both of the road races on the four-race IROC schedule. He outscored Elliott, 62-59.
