Hermosa Beach : Shopping Center Plan OKd

Share

A proposal for a $24-million, two-story shopping center and six-screen movie theater at Pacific Coast Highway and 16th Street has been approved by the City Council despite objections of neighboring condominium owners.

The development is expected to generate more than $200,000 a year in tax revenues to the city’s ailing budget.

Neighbors appealed the unanimous decision of the Planning Commission to grant a conditional-use permit without first having an environmental impact report completed. They expressed concern about vandalism and added traffic and parking problems.

The Planning Commission had approved the project unanimously, and the City Council rejected the residents’ appeal this week by a 4-1 vote.
