Freeway Slowed Again by Mobile Home Wreckage

Westbound traffic on the Ventura Freeway was slowed in the San Fernando Valley most of Friday as wrecking crews carried out the remains of a mobile home that plunged off the freeway in Encino Thursday afternoon.

“Only the metal frame on the bottom came out easily on Thursday,” California Highway Patrol Officer Eugene Jones said. “Much of the rest of the mobile home was wrecked and had to be carted out piece by piece,” he said.

Two of the freeway’s five westbound lanes were closed Friday morning for removal of the debris, Jones said, stopping traffic back to the Hollywood Freeway.

Driver William Drake, 25, of Atascadero, who was towing the $20,000 mobile home, told police a gust of wind caused the crash.
