Fountain Valley : Social Service Agencies May Apply for Funds

Share

A deadline of Sept. 12 has been set for social service agencies in the city to apply for federal Housing and Community Development funds.

Joan Dean, who heads the city’s Housing and Community Development fund program, said last year that seven organizations applied for funds and received a total of $32,200.

This year, $38,850 in Housing and Community Development funds are available, she said.

Agencies that are interested must be in accord with city policy that requires groups to be incorporated, to have adequate administration, good accounting records and an annual audit.

Housing and Community Development funds are available to agencies that provide employment services or appeal to the education, health, welfare, child care or recreational needs of residents.

Programs that fight drug abuse are also welcome to apply.

Each application will be reviewed by a Housing and Community Development board, which will then make recommendations to the City Council, Dean said.

The council is tentatively scheduled to allocate the money at its Nov. 18 meeting, she said.

Applications must be received by the city clerk at City Hall, 10200 Slater Ave., by 5 p.m. Sept. 12., Dean said.
