Henry X. Jackson, Longtime Hospital Administrator, Dies

Henry X. Jackson of Northridge, a veteran medical administrator of Valley Presbyterian Hospital, has died, hospital officials said Monday. Jackson had headed the hospital from the time it opened in 1958 until his retirement three years ago.

In failing health at 69, he succumbed to pneumonia in Muskegon, Mich., on Saturday while visiting relatives.

Jackson was administrator and executive president of Valley Presbyterian for 25 years. After retiring, he was vice chairman of the hospital’s foundation and a member of its board of directors.

He was also a director of the Los Angeles County Heart Assn. and of Red Cross and Boy Scouts of America chapters in the Los Angeles area.

Jackson was a past president of the Hospital Council Assn. of Southern California, the California Hospital Assn. and the Assn. of Western Hospitals. He had also been vice president of Blue Cross of Southern California.

In 1983 Jackson was awarded the California Hospital Assn.’s highest honor, the Award of Merit.

He is survived by his wife, Georgia, four children and four grandchildren.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Cemetery Church of the Hills at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Hollywood Hills, 6300 Forest Lawn Drive.

The hospital spokesman said family members have requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Jackson’s name to the Valley Presbyterian Hospital Foundation.
