A California Highway patrolman stopping to investigate a car parked on the shoulder of California 163 near the Friars Road exit ended up arresting the driver for possession of cocaine and two handguns.
Patrolman J.A. Rolfes Jr. said he found Caroll King Mendez asleep in the front seat of the car at about 5 p.m. Monday. After several attempts, the officer was able to rouse the man.
Rolfes said Mendez tried to pull a gun, but he put his own gun to the suspect’s head.
Rolfes arrested Mendez and said he confiscated a 9mm handgun, a 9mm machine pistol, ammunition, handcuffs, a bottle of Bacardi rum, free-basing materials and a quarter pound of cocaine.
