Because of an error in a United Press International story, The Times incorrectly reported in its editions of Aug. 19 that Schwab’s, the legendary Hollywood drug store that is now closed, had been demolished. The building will soon be occupied by a vintage clothing and costume store, according to the owner.

Schwab’s was a Sunset Boulevard fixture for more than 50 years and was reputed to be where Lana Turner was spotted by a producer when she was a teen-ager sipping a soda. Schwab has said the real story was that she simply had her first date at Schwab’s with an actor who later took her to the studios where she was eventually discovered.

The drugstore was closed two years ago and the building razed.
