The San Diego police SWAT team was called to the 6800 block of Mission Gorge Road Monday night after a woman armed with a gun barricaded herself in her home for almost four hours and threatened to kill anyone who approached the house, police said.

The despondent woman also threatened suicide, police spokesman Bill Robinson said.

A hostage negotiator was called to the Allied Gardens home after the woman fired one shot, which hit no one. While the negotiator was talking to the woman, she apparently took some pills and finally lost consciousness, Robinson said.

The SWAT team entered the house about 3:30 a.m. Tuesday, Robinson said.

The woman was taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital for treatment and later transferred to the county mental hospital for observation, he said.
