A woman was killed late Monday in Costa Mesa when an alleged hit-and-run driver struck the motorcycle on which she was riding, police said.

Jill Paradiso, 21, of Newport Beach died shortly after arriving at Fountain Valley Regional Hospital, Sgt. Tom Warnack said.

Warnack said Paradiso was riding on a motorcycle driven by Jonathan Marsh, 23, of Santa Ana when the crash occurred about 10 p.m. in the northbound lanes of Newport Boulevard near Del Mar Avenue.

Hospital officials said Marsh was in serious but stable condition Tuesday afternoon in the intensive care unit.

The driver of the car that struck the motorcycle, Edward Collier, was arrested after abandoning his car and running toward the Santa Ana Country Club, Warnack said.

Collier, 25, of Garden Grove was booked into Costa Mesa City Jail on suspicion of manslaughter, hit-and-run and felony drunk driving, Warnack said.
