A single-engine light airplane crash-landed near Cerritos Channel in the Los Angeles-Long Beach harbor area, injuring its pilot and one passenger, police reported. Witnesses said the Cessna 152 came down in a scrap yard between Henry Ford Avenue and the Terminal Island Freeway after knocking out three 34,500-volt power lines that emitted a shower of sparks. The California Highway Patrol closed the southbound on-ramp to the freeway at Anaheim Street, but no fire resulted. The two victims were reported to be seriously injured but conscious when rescuers arrived. They were taken by ambulance to St. Mary’s Medical Center, Long Beach. Cause of the crash was not immediately known.
