Long Beach city Auditor Robert Fronke has appointed Garry Burroughs assistant city auditor. Burroughs, a certified public accountant with more than 20 years of experience, replaces Jay Hansen, who retired. Burroughs is relocating to Long Beach.

Long Beach Councilman Edd Tuttle has been appointed by the council to the Los Angeles County Transportation Commission. He will replace Marc Wilder, who did not run for reelection to the council. Serving as alternate to Tuttle on the commission is Ray Grabinski, recently elected to the council. The 11-member transportation panel, which includes the five county supervisors, the mayor of Los Angeles and a Long Beach council member, sets policies and coordinates activities among the various transportation operators and agencies in Los Angeles County.

Kevin E. Kustra, a graphic arts senior at the California State University, Long Beach, took first place in a competition sponsored by Women in Design of Los Angeles for a poster to promote a conference on the use of computers in design arts. Copies of Kustra’s poster, which shows an artist’s portfolio case in the shape of a floppy disk, will publicize Byte Back, a computer conference to be held Sept. 20 at the Los Angeles Midtown Hilton.

Jean Bingham of Downey has been reappointed to represent the 1st Supervisorial District on the Los Angeles County Commission for Public Social Services. Bingham is a former state social worker and has served for 15 years on the Huntington Park Recreation Commission. The social services panel advises the county on the provision of public social services.

Richard B. Fink, who has practiced veterinary medicine since 1952 in Whittier, has been installed as president-elect of the 42,000-member American Veterinary Medical Assn. Fink is a past president of the Southern California Veterinary Medical Assn. and the California Veterinary Medical Assn. He and his wife, Yvonne, live in Hacienda Heights.

More than 350 family members and friends recently attended the 24th annual Castillo family reunion in Long Beach. The senior participant was 90-year-old Santos Castillo of Long Beach, who immigrated from San Luis Potosi, Mexico, as a teen-ager. The youngest was Ricky Castillo, 6 months old. The youngest of Santos Castillo’s eight children, Joe Castillo, a Long Beach Police Department patrolman, was recently honored by Long Beach Poly High School for service to the school and community. Eight members of the extended family have served or are serving in law enforcement.
