City Rescues Agoura Hills Parade

Agoura Hills city leaders have marched to the rescue of a community parade threatened by a lack of insurance coverage.

City Council members voted 5 to 0 Tuesday night to co-sponsor the Pony Express Days parade Sept. 20 after being told that homeowners planning the event cannot afford a $2,500 liability policy.

City sponsorship will allow the parade to be covered under Agoura Hills’ existing city insurance policy at no extra cost, City Manager Michael W. Huse said. He said homeowners had not had time to solicit donations to pay for the temporary insurance.

The parade is one of several activities scheduled for the annual Western-theme Pony Express Days celebration Sept. 18 through 21. Events are being sponsored by community groups and coordinated by the Agoura-Las Virgenes Chamber of Commerce.

Chamber Secretary-Director Connie Raabe said Wednesday that her group not only did not have money for the liability insurance but did not “even have insurance coverage for our directors.”
