The Region : Body in Bin Not Linked to Serial Killer

A woman found dead in a trash bin near the corner of 57th and Figueroa streets probably was not a victim of the Southside Slayer, police said. The woman was identified as Rose Annette Maiden, 25, of South-Central Los Angeles. The fact that Maiden apparently had not been stabbed or strangled, along with other details of the case, led police to believe that the slaying was not committed by the Southside Slayer, Police Cmdr. William Booth said. An autopsy performed Saturday failed to establish a cause of death, and further examination of the body, including toxicological testing, was scheduled, Booth said. Police have attributed 17 killings to the man or men dubbed the Southside Slayer. Most of the women were black, many were prostitutes, and all were stabbed, strangled or both. Maiden did not have a record of prostitution with the Los Angeles Police Department, Booth said.
