A Carpinteria man and his son were killed when their single-engine plane crashed during takeoff at Grand Canyon Airport, Arizona authorities said. The pilot and his son were injured and taken to Flagstaff Medical Center, where they were in stable condition. Killed were Edward Vernon Brown Jr., 42, and Aaron Brown, 14. Injured were Douglas Pound, 35, and Michael Pound, 7. All were from Carpinteria in Santa Barbara County. Coconino County Sheriff’s Detective Gil Moreno said the high-wing Cessna crashed on takeoff and landed at the south end of the runway. The cause of the crash was not known. Moreno said it may have been raining at the time.
