Share

The City Council has agreed to pay 17 city employees a total of more than $3,000 in addition to their regular salaries for their bilingual skills.

The council voted unanimously Monday to comply with a recent agreement between the city and the Clerical Assn. and Miscellaneous Employees Assn. calling for additional pay for bilingual skills.

The agreement calls for the 17 bilingual employees, the majority of whom speak Spanish, to receive a flat fee of $10 per month for one year. Those who can write as well as speak another language will receive a flat fee of $25 per month.

These employees must regularly communicate in both English and another language while conducting city business, said Andrew Pasmant, community development director.
