Pico Rivera : Lawn Parking Prohibited

The City Council has unanimously approved an ordinance prohibiting parking on lawns but delayed its enforcement until July, 1987.

Responding to complaints from residents who said they parked on their front lawns only on street cleaning days, the council last week included a provision to change the city’s street sweeping schedule.

Under the new policy, opposite sides of the streets will be cleaned on alternate days, allowing residents to park their vehicles on one side of the street instead of on their front lawns.

Violators of the ordinance will be fined, but the amount has not yet been determined, said John W. Lampe, senior planner. The average fine in other cities, such as Bell Gardens and Montebello, is about $13.

The ordinance will cost the city about $100,000 a year in extra street cleaning costs, Lampe said. Another $190,000 will be spent for start-up costs, such as labor and 3,400 new street sweeping signs.
