Measure Would Allow Student Editorials
The Assembly on Thursday night sent to Gov. George Deukmejian a bill that would allow student publications in the California State University system to take editorial stands or endorse political candidates.
Sparked by a dispute between the student newspaper at CSU’s Humboldt campus and the school’s administration, the bill would require editorials in student publications to carry disclaimers stating that the opinions expressed do not necessarily represent those of the administration or any entity that contributes to the paper’s financial support.
