Ronas Ryon outran favorite Lil Bit Shiney to win the $2.5 million All-American Futurity for quarter horses at Ruidoso Downs, N.M.
The only problem for the big sorrel colt came when jockey Jerry Nicodemus lost his whip coming out of the gate. Ronas Ryon ran a nearly flawless race, covering 440 yards in 21.48 seconds, third-best time ever for the Futurity.
