Two Die in Crash of Plane Near Border
SAN DIEGO — Two men were killed Tuesday in the crash of a small plane just north of the U.S.-Mexico border, the San Diego County coroner’s office said.
The plane, a light experimental type, crashed in a field shortly after takeoff from the Brown Field airport in the Otay Mesa area.
A Navy helicopter pilot on maneuvers in the area spotted the pilot and passenger slumped inside the plane and reported the crash, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department said.
A Federal Aviation Administration spokesman said three FAA inspectors were sent to the site to investigate.
The names of the victims were not immediately released.
