An El Monte man has been found guilty in Rio Hondo Municipal Court of beating his Doberman pinscher after neighbors called police when they heard the dog howling in a yard on Aug. 6, 1985.

Anthony J. Love was convicted last week of cruelty to an animal, a misdemeanor. The dog, which Love had owned for four months, was tightly chained to a fence during the beating, according to Paula Van Orden of the Fund for Animals office in Pasadena.

Love is scheduled for sentencing on Oct. 7. He faces a maximum term of one year in jail and a $1,000 fine.
