A canyon brush fire that began Thursday afternoon south of Dulzura and charred 950 acres was under control by Friday night, the California Department of Forestry said.

The Mine Fire, as it is called, started about 1 p.m. Thursday in a heavy brush and tree area of Mine Canyon, five miles south of Dulzura on California 94 and half a mile north of the Mexican border, CDF Capt. Jim VanMeter said.

The blaze, being fought by 75 firefighters, burned Bureau of Land Management land near Marron Valley Road, VanMeter said. There is no danger to structures or lives, he added.
