Week in Review : MAJOR EVENTS, IMAGES AND PEOPLE IN ORANGE COUNTY NEWS : CITIES : Teachers Approve Pact With 10.5% Pay Raise
The 1,100 teachers in the Orange Unified School District voted to accept the school board’s latest contract offer, averting a strike that had been called for this week.
The contract grants the teachers a 10.5% salary increase, setting a new annual salary range of $21,684 to $40,627. The union originally asked for a 15% increase.
The union won its demand for binding arbitration in all contract matters, but the district held firm against the union demand that money allocated from California Lottery profits automatically be set aside for bargaining matters, such as salaries.
