Rams Will Sign Fuller, Former Star in USFL

Former Baltimore Stars defensive end William Fuller has agreed to terms and will sign a contract today with the Rams.

Fuller, 6-feet 3-inches and 260 pounds, was a Rams’ first-round pick in the 1984 United States Football League supplemental draft.

He played at North Carolina before signing a $1.6 million contract with the Philadelphia Stars, who later moved to Baltimore.

He’s expected to sign for about $150,000 this season.

“Like any negotiations, there was give and take on both sides,’ Fuller said. “Realistically, I couldn’t afford to sit out another year.”

Fuller’s last game was in July 1985, as the Stars defeated the Oakland Invaders in the final USFL title game.

Fuller visited the Rams in training camp, but last week he was in Houston, drawing speculation that a deal would be worked out with the Oilers.

But Fuller flew to California on Tuesday and took a physical with the Rams.

“Hopefully,” he said, “It won’t take me long to get in the groove.”

The Rams have a two-week roster exemption to decide whether to activate Fuller.
