Quarterback Rickey Foggie, the two-time most valuable player of the Minnesota football team, was declared ineligible by the school because the athletic department purchased an airline ticket for him.

Also declared ineligible for the same reason was backup linebacker Don Pollard. The suspensions are for an indefinite period, pending appeal.

National Collegiate Athletic Assn. rules require the school to make the players ineligible and then appeal to the NCAA Eligibility Committee for restoration of eligibility. The appeal will be heard Thursday. Minnesota opens the season Saturday against Bowling Green.
