Newport Beach : Man Dies of Injuries Suffered in Fall Off Bike
A man who fell from his bicycle and struck his head has died, it was reported Saturday.
Police Sgt. Gene Senecal said Michael William Chapman, 28, of Newport Beach died Friday at Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian in Newport Beach. Chapman was riding along Pacific Coast Highway near MacArthur Boulevard Wednesday morning when his bicycle hit a curb and Chapman fell, striking his head. Chapman was not wearing a helmet, police said.
Chapman was conscious when he was treated at the scene but lapsed into a coma on Thursday and emergency surgery was performed, Senecal said.
A coroner’s office spokesman said an autopsy confirmed that Chapman died of head injuries.
