Property owners whose homes were demolished as a result of the Aug. 31 collision between an Aeromexico DC-9 and a Piper Archer II over Cerritos will not have to pay property taxes on the homes, county officials said. The crash and fire that destroyed their homes also took with it the basis for the tax on the residences, officials said; taxes will be based on the assessed value of the land only. Of the 17 homes involved in the crash, 10 were destroyed and will have their improvement values reduced to zero, effective the date of the accident.
