NBA Reaches Agreement on Three-Year Pact With Officials
NBA Commissioner David Stern announced in Orlando, Fla., Sunday that agreement had been reached on a new three-year contract with the National Association of Basketball Referees.
The contract, which takes effect at the start of the upcoming NBA season, gives the league officials an aggregate 23% increase in salaries over its three-year term. By the end of the contract, top referees could earn a total of about $130,000 for the regular season and playoffs.
The contract also calls for increases in monthly expense allowances and fringe benefits.
Stern announced the agreement during the first day of the NBA’s annual meetings.
About a dozen negotiating sessions, held over the past four months, concluded Wednesday night, and the referees’ membership finished ratifying the agreement Saturday.
NBA owners will be asked to ratify the agreement this week.
